PASEC PORTFOLIO
On this website you can find my portfolio of the USFQ PASEC subject. Here are the requested activities and reflections such as: strengths, contributions, objective and reflection.
Strengths
The 3 strengths that I chose for myself are: creativity, public speaking and group management. By creativity I mean the ability to invent alternatives to common games or make adaptations to activities based on a goal, it is important because this allows me to adapt to situations in which we do not have all the time or resources for a goal and still fulfill it. Public speaking is a strength that allows me to stand in front of an audience and perform in such a way that it is understandable and adaptable to situations. It is important because this allows me to communicate with groups of people effectively. Group management is the ability to manage people and their needs during the activities that are carried out. It is important because it is necessary to lead activities and especially with children, their needs must be taken into account.
The 3 strengths that I identify in the group of beneficiaries (the children of the Baca Ortiz pediatric hospital) are: adaptability, courage and curiosity. Adaptability is seen in the ability to do activities that they initially cannot because they are limited or do not have material resources by using alternatives, focusing on the resources they have and striving to meet their goals. Courage is evident when having to face difficult situations and constantly improve oneself to achieve activities that we would normally believe limit them, such as studying. Curiosity is a natural characteristic of children, it is important for their development and when they are in these situations it is their main weapon to not give up.
I have selected the strengths so that they are grouped in pairs describing activities that we share and benefit from.
- The combination of creativity and adaptability gives us the result that when carrying out activities such as games, we can do them inside the hospital and they can do it enjoying them in the same way as if they were outside of it, we can take the example of the game of bowling, since clearly we do not have adequate space to do it and in many cases their mobility is limited, but we adapt the cones to be able to put them on the beds or on the floor and they adapt to be able to play it and strive to win, enjoying the game in the process.
- If we combine public speaking with courage, we achieve that in the activities we can give them the opportunity to get out of their comfortable zone and give them confidence with our attitude, specifically we can see it in activities such as the cup dance, the teapot dance and the rest. of the utensils, since we come in to dance and sing and then they can replicate it if they want, raising their spirits.
- Finally, group management and curiosity also facilitate the achievement of the activities, as you will notice, the activities focus on games within the hospital, this is seen in activities such as trivia, where they decide to participate when they feel attracted by the topic and We act as presenters, giving way to questions and dynamics when there is more than one participant.
CONTRIBUTIONS
The first activity is in the hospital. This activity consists of preparing games for children in an area of the Baca Ortiz pediatric hospital. This includes segmenting children into 4 age groups so we can focus on what interests them and how they can better entertain themselves. In this activity there is a brigade leader who selects the topic that will be covered that day, while the people who will attend choose an age group and develop the activities and materials we need. An example could be with the theme of animals where for children of 15-18 years old we do trivia to see who can answer the most questions, another example could be with the theme of space, bringing materials to be able to make an alien craft where they can paint, cut and paste to let your imagination fly, this activity is for children 7-10 years old. I specifically carried out these activities, that is, planning and executing the activities for a specific group and rotating them within the hospital in the available rooms. It is very satisfying to get children’s smiles.
The second activity is helping at events organized by the foundation. Specifically I am going to tell about Children’s Day. In it, we worked only with children with cancer and their families in the foundation’s facilities. Specifically on this day I helped ensure that the children did not go to the outdoor play area without a companion, then I led a group of other volunteers to prepare and serve snacks for the children and their families. This work involved less planning effort on our part, but we still developed activities with the children for their well-being and enjoyment. Finally we managed to deliver food to all the families and no children were hurt.
Objective
I think that a problem that exists in Ecuador is the lack of updated information. When one wants to volunteer, donate or any related project, one is limited by the number of organizations that we know and those that our acquaintances know. This can be mitigated thanks to Internet access, but, even so, the decentralization of information strongly limits what we access. That is why the life goal that I have set for myself is to create a platform or website that registers and classifies organizations, foundations and social projects in Ecuador. This goal relates to Sustainable Development Goal 17: Partnerships to achieve goals. More specifically, we do not relate to its main axis, which is international and global alliances, but rather to alliances between the government, the private sector and civil society. I believe that with access to information it is easier for this inter-institutional collaboration to occur effectively.
Once the objective is established, we will begin planning. In order to evaluate whether it is met, we must focus on the objectives that have been used: create, register and classify. Therefore, we have the following elements to evaluate the progress or completion of the objective: (i) the existence of the page, (ii) the public access of the page, (iii) the ease of use, (iv) the ease of registration of new organizations, and (v) their correct classification. With this information it is easier to verify if the planning is consistent with the objective. I believe that for the Project to be effective and efficient, a group of people is required, which should include: communicator, web page developer and expert in social organizations.
- The first step is the collection of information (name of the foundation, summary, contact, website, etc.), here the resources we need are internet access and printouts to carry out surveys and research, and the estimated time is 3 months , since in the future we can continue adding to the organizations and at this time we can have a broad registry.
- Then, we have to do the classification stage, for this we need the information to be stored in data blocks that can be assigned identifiers, so we need the web developer to give us a base version of the website where we can store the database. data, in addition the expert in social organizations must give us guidelines so that the classification is useful, the time for this step is still 3 months.
- The third step is the opening, in which we seek to publish the website and have a suggestion form as the main button to be able to adapt the page to its best version. This stage will last 2 months.
- The next thing is to create a form that will replace the previous main button so that the information of new organizations can be filled out, this must be approved by the administrators and will be active constantly.
- Finally, the final adjustments are made so that the website is as useful as possible and the communicator will create a campaign so that it is known and used. The communication campaign will last 6 months.
Like any other plan, this is susceptible to many setbacks and errors, that is why in several parts the effort is made to have the product to the public to receive feedback and be able to improve, we hope that the project can be carried out by volunteers and managed by a group of people who can maintain the website without problems.
